Dr. Robert L. Irish (Alpha/Norwich 1889) served as a link to the origins and traditions of the Fraternity at Norwich University as Theta Chi expanded throughout America in the early 1900s. He was the second brother elected as National President and provided wisdom and guidance during his many years on the Grand Chapter. In recognition of the continuing power of his idealistic and unselfish service, the Grand Chapter conferred the title of "The Grand Old Man of Theta Chi" on Brother Irish in 1931.
